Famous artists are often eccentric characters – as a matter of fact, there are very few really accomplished artists in the history of art who had average lives. Here are a few interesting facts about great artists:
- Much of Andy Warhol’s art is focused on food, yet he had some very strange eating habits – he stayed thin by going to restaurants and ordering meals that he did not like. He ate very little of the meals ordered, then he had the leftovers packed into doggy bags and he donated the bags to homeless people.
- Michelangelo did not bathe – he avoided bathing at the advice of his father who told him that staying dirty was the best way to preserve good health.
- Wassily Kandinsky had synesthesia, a very rare condition that prompts the brain to process one type of external information as if it were multiple-type stimulation. Kandinsky heard the colors that he used in his paintings, enjoying a symphony whenever he put brush to canvas.
- Leonardo Da Vinci was a vegetarian who avoided not only meat, but everything that could cause suffering to animals as well and he was also the first animal rights activist in the history of art.
